ABOUT THIS COURSE

What this course covers

This free online course teaches how to inspect non-powered hand tools such as hammers, chisels, spanners, saws and knives, recognise the defects that make a tool unsafe, quarantine and tag out damaged tools, and keep the inspection record a client or auditor expects to see. It is aimed at the person appointed to check tools, storekeepers and supervisors. The content applies the employer’s general duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, using HSE good-practice guidance for the practical detail. Sixteen modules with 32 activities lead to a 48-question knowledge check; you need at least 39 correct, including all 16 safety-critical answers, to print the certificate of completion. Awareness only, non-accredited; it does not cover powered tools, which have their own course.
