METHOD & SOURCE NOTES

What this screen can tell you.

This is an original, qualitative OHSE prioritisation tool: six shared checks plus five per selected exposure path. It is not a validated exposure model, medical assessment, statutory assessment or legal-compliance audit. No sensor readings are requested and no safe temperature, exposure dose, laser viewing distance or compliance percentage is calculated.

How the outcome is decided

Any substantial concern, acute safety flag, health-referral flag, specialist-dependent gap or uncertain answer leads to Formal assessment recommended. Three or more concern answers within one exposure path, or within the shared programme, also trigger formal review. This combination rule is an OHSE precautionary design choice, not a legal or validated exposure threshold.

Other reported concerns lead to Improvement needed. Monitor requires all selected checks to report no concerns, including current assessment and appropriate evidence. It never means the workplace is safe, compliant or exempt. A per-path result includes the shared checks; the screen identifies when these raise the path’s outcome.

South African duties remain separate

The source basis is the Physical Agents Regulations, 2024 (GN 5952, published 6 March 2025), read with GN 7149 of 20 February 2026. The amendment corrects regulation 3(4)(k) and entries in Tables 2, 4 and 6. Regulation 6 requires competent-person assessment, as far as reasonably practicable before exposure, at intervals not exceeding 24 months and following relevant changes, incidents or health/control findings.

Monitoring is a separate requirement when its triggers apply under regulation 7; illumination has its own programme under regulation 11. Unknown evidence is not itself proof of an OEL exceedance. Table 3 indoor-air values are guideline levels, not a generic clearance for chemicals, biological agents or entry. Medical screening and surveillance follow regulation 8 and the appropriate occupational health professionals; this tool decides neither.

Scope & privacy

Designed for employer-managed South African OHS Act workplaces. Noise is excluded where the Noise Exposure Regulations apply. Self-employed, mining, ionising-radiation and specialist settings need separate scope/competence checks. This tool does not authorise confined-space entry, electrical work, laser use, MRI access or work in hazardous atmospheres. Do not enter names or medical details. Acute illness, a gas alarm or a failed critical control requires action now, not after completing the screen.

Answers are held only in page memory and lost on reload. Downloads, printouts and copied reports contain your answers; handle them appropriately. The email enquiry excludes your area label, headcount, symptoms and individual answers. It opens an email draft and does not send it. No analytics, automatic submission, cookies or browser storage are implemented. The host can still create server logs.
