BEHIND THE SCREEN

Better questions. Clearer decisions.

Original OHSE triage logic, informed by South African ergonomics duties and occupational-health guidance. This is not a validated assessment instrument.

METHOD & SOURCE NOTES

What this screen can tell you.

This is an original, qualitative prioritisation tool for physical ergonomic concerns. It is not MAC, ART, RAPP, RULA, REBA, a NIOSH lifting-equation calculation, a medical assessment or a legal-compliance audit.

How the outcome is decided

Any substantial concern, recurring symptom/injury report, missing or unverified current assessment, or uncertain answer leads to Formal assessment recommended. Three or more concern answers counted across a selected task and the shared recovery question also lead to that outcome. That combination rule is an OHSE precautionary design choice, not a legal or validated exposure threshold.

Otherwise, any reported concern leads to Improvement needed. Monitor is available only when all selected checks report no concerns, with current assessment coverage and representative observation confirmed. It never means the task is safe or exempt from assessment.

South African duties remain separate

Regulation 6 of the Ergonomics Regulations, 2019 requires an assessment by a competent person before relevant work, after consultation with the relevant health and safety committee or representatives, at intervals not exceeding two years and on specified review triggers. Controls follow the hierarchy of controls. A medical-surveillance need may arise from the assessment or an occupational health practitioner’s recommendation; this tool decides neither.

Scope & privacy

Use one activity/work area at a time. People handling, specialist operations and individual medical restrictions need appropriate competent advice. Cognitive and organisational ergonomics are not comprehensively assessed. Answers are held in page memory, not saved in a browser database. Reloading loses them. Explicit downloads and copies contain your answers. Email contains only task context and outcome. Hosted pages can still create ordinary server logs; adding analytics changes this privacy position.
